Lunch time at Yayoi Japanese Teishoku Restaurant, SM Mall of Asia

It was an ordinary day but special to me because my son will treat me for lunch at SM Mall of Asia. Coming from their office in Greenhills for an office errand, Pao fetched me in my workplace by noontime. We were both craving ramen and so we looked for a Japanese restaurant from the North to South Wing of SM Moa. After a lot of walking, finally, we stumbled at Yayoi Japanese Teishoku Restaurant or simply, YAYOI.

About Yayoi

Yayoi was first opened as YAYOI-KEN during the Meji period in 1886 as a European restaurant and was said to introduce a brand new food culture to the people in Japan. Today it has more than 500 branches worldwide in Japan, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, USA now in the Philippines.

Its signature dish is the Teishoku, a simple well-balanced set meal with a combination of steamed rice, miso soup, a main dish of your choice, vegetables, and Japanese pickles.

It was MECQ over Manila but people may eat now inside a restaurant or a la carte. Since it was lunchtime, the limited table inside the restaurant was packed. We were number two in the queue. We had a pre-order meal so we will no longer wait when we get inside.

640-ENTRANCE

These are what we have for lunch:

TONKOTSU SHOYU RAMEN (Php395.00) – This has ramen noodles in pork broth, stewed Cashu pork belly, and a soft-boiled egg. This was served hot and the usual technique to enjoy ramen’s goodness is to eat fast before it turns cold. I was happy as I savored its broth because it was flavorful and meaty. The noodles had a fine texture, it tastes good and wasn’t soggy. Being one of my favorite ramen noodles, I wasn’t disappointed choosing Tonkotsu Shoyu Ramen again for lunch.

My favorite ramen

CHICKEN KATSU TOJI (from Chicken Namba Teishoku) (Php395.00) – Pao’s initial craving is ramen but decided to try the Teishoku meal. This has deep-fried chicken cutlets simmered in special sauce with an egg which give it more taste. The unique combination of chicken and the soya sauce was a delightful surprise to our taste buds. Pao was happy about this meal. It was juicy and flavorful.

640-PAO ORDER 2

GYOZA (Php220-6 pcs) – this is our all-time Japanese food favorite. Its taste was almost the same as other Japanese restaurants. It was flavorful and not so salty.

640-GYOZA

SALMON ROLL (PHP225.00) – is one of Yayoi’s signature rolls the reason why we tried it. Salmon is on top of sushi rice rolled with crab stick, boiled shrimp, Tamago, and cucumber. As expected, its taste was really good, no wonder it is one of their best.

GREEN MANGO SHAKE (Php125.00)

640-MATCHA MILK SHAKE

MATCHA MILKSHAKE (PHP150.00)

640-GREEN MATCHA

BOTTLED WATER (PHP45.00)

The Ambiance

The resto had a minimalist design, incorporated with color beige for seats and tables and gray on walls and ceiling. It was simple but not boring and distracting.

The service

A tablet is installed on a wall at each table. We had a pre-order meal but we decided to add some more. We placed our order by tapping the desired meal and we waited for the food to be served. The service was a bit fast and the staff are attentive.

Verdict

The food rate may be slightly overpriced, but we were satisfied that we would want to go back with the family. They have proper sanitation, visibly neat and organized. You will not regret spending money in a restaurant that will surely give you a dose of high-quality food and good service.

640-CEILING

They also sell platters as shown in the picture.
