In our 2015 Volleyball tournament, the Blue team defeated the Violet team for second place (which was US. Huhuhu). Shiela, being one of the star players of the Blue team was teased by my teammates, Joyce, Arriane, and Rose for a treat. It was so early to celebrate for they have to beat the White team in the championship. But surprisingly, she did. I was told by Joyce, it wasn’t the winning, but the friendship. I was deeply touched for I was included and was thanking in advance.
And so, by 5:30 pm the following day, we hailed a taxi going to Glorietta 2 in Makati. It was Friday, the predominant office week-ender in Makati, as usual, we were stuck up in a traffic jam. It was almost 7:00 pm when we landed at Glorietta. But we couldn’t decide where we should dine. Our eyes were drooling everywhere.
Finally, we ended up at Mexicali Restaurant. This is my first time to eat here, and just like all my firsts, it hyped up the adrenaline in me.
I haven’t eaten Mexican food for quite some time and I rarely eat Mexican Food. But I do miss the Nachos Grande at Tia Maria’s in Festival Mall, Alabang. Well, this is for a dose of nachos and chips and surely, we will enjoy this meal.
The place was small but with cozy interiors. We chose to sit in the middle area and scoured the menu for orders. Since I was an alien at Mexicali, I couldn’t decide what to order. I haven’t tried burrito yet so my buddies told me to try it. What’s great about Mexicali is that they have combo meals with two dishes and a drink.
We all favored the combo sets.
While waiting for the food to be served, we kept ourselves busy with the usual cheerful conversation. I felt rejuvenated talking to these girls because our topics were out from our work.
And so here’s our order:
Mine was Combo #4 – Burrito (no rice) with Taco and Ice Tea. Joyce had the same order only that she went for Burrito with rice
For Shiela, Combo #2 Dos Tacos Plate and Ice Tea.
For Rose and Arriane, Combo #3 – Taco, Quesadilla, and Ice Tea.
They served the food with all three dips, pico de gallo (the red salsa), salsa verde (the green), and my favorite garlic mayo sauce (white) for the crispy chips. Red chile sauce was added and so we indulged our appetites and dived in with delight.
I really love nachos and chips, they were so delisyoso. Needless to say, the burrito was so delicious too. Inside the soft flour tortillas were meat, sour cream, cheese, and beans. Hmmm… It was great! But it was so heavy on the stomach. I forced myself to eat the whole burrito. I could no longer eat my nacho so I managed to take it home for my hubby. Pao, my son would surely love this nacho so I ordered one for him.
They had fast service, no long waiting for the food ordered. One point for Mexicali.
It’s not only the food and the place that sometimes matter, but the shared memories I had with these cheerful people.
Thanks, Shiela for this awesome treat. You really are so cool and so generous.
