It is so easy and convenient to stroll around in Singapore because of their effective transportation. Since my brother, our generous tour guide will report for work today (no family getaway by now), my hubby, Pao, and I decided to spend our fourth day buying pasalubong in Bugis Street. It is Singapore’s popular flea market where it offers affordable buys from souvenir items, t-shirts, foods, shoes, and a lot more.
We will meet my hubby’s former office mates, Bogs and Allan who cordially invited us for a lunch treat. Both are working in Singapore. We left momentarily our travel buddies (the kids and senior citizens) because they might get exhausted mingling in a crowded shopping mall. Instead, they will soak their bodies into the swimming pool; one of the privileges given by the Filipino owner of the condo unit we rented for a couple of days.
How we get there from Bukit Panjang
My brother gave us his three EZ-link cards (with sufficient load) and upon his instruction, we easily found Bugis Street by riding the MRT and alighted at Bugis Station.
Bugis Street is in front of Bugis Junction and beside Bugis+ shopping malls. This flea market is now Singapore’s biggest shopping district with over 800 retail stores to cater to your needs. When we got there it was packed with tourists. We explored around looking for the stall where we could find the cheapest item. And so we got one. Except for the chocolates.
Here is the list of keepsakes:
- key-chains (24 pcs for SG$10)
- ref magnets (6 for SG$6)
- t-shirts “I Love SG” (3 for SG$10)
- bags (3 for SG$10)
- table display items (SG$8-SG$10)
- chocolates (3 for SG$15-SG$20)
There are money changers in the area so there’s nothing to worry about if you run out of Singapore dollars.
After we bought everything we want, we went back to Bugis Station and there we met Bogs and Allan. It was my first time (and Pao too) seeing these guys personally. Since they haven’t seen each other for quite some time, everyone was so happy as they started swapping stories.
The two boys will treat us to Food Republic (our version of Food Court) at level 4 of Wisma Atria shopping mall in Orchard Road.
How do we get to Wisma Atria from Bugis Station
We boarded the Bugis MRT Station and alighted at the Orchard Station (NS22), took Exit E and entered the underpass along Paterson Link.
Next Destination – Lunch treat at Wisma Atria
