Sumlang Lake is one of the newest attractions in Camalig, Albay that promises a lovely feel of serenity and tranquility. I was glad this is part of our visit to my home town this summer of 2017 with Lignon Hills in Legazpi City as our final leg.
Sumlang Lake Eco Park
Sumlang Lake is an addition to the rising top tourist attractions in Albay. The lake was once abundantly filled with water lilies. It was the villagers who worked hard to remove these plants and eventually saw their potential as a tourist spot. The local government helped it develop to boost its eco-tourism. It is where you will see the beautiful Mayon Volcano on a clear day. Indeed, a perfect backdrop for picture taking.
You will surely love its stillness and the tranquility defined in the area especially early morning when the sun starts to hover in the sky. Aside from the wondrous sight, they offer various activities that will give you a dose of relaxation but with corresponding fees:
- Balsa Tour – Php 25.00 per head
- Kayaking – Php50.00 per head for 30 minutes
- Aqua Biking – Php 50.00 per head for 30 minutes
- Floating Cottage – Php300 for 1 hour
It is a one-way street in getting to the lake. There were assigned locals using wireless radio communication assisting tourists to the parking area. It took several minutes when we get there. We’ve heard there was no entrance fee before the Lenten Season but as of our visit, there’s an imposed fee already. Anyway, it will help the maintenance and facility enhancement for visitor’s enjoyment.
Since it was a long holiday, the lake was crowded with visitors. We couldn’t wait for our turn as we will go to Lignon Hills to capture the sunset. Since we were not able to try any activity, we walked around taking pictures here, there, and everywhere.
It was late in the afternoon and still, the weather was hot. To quench our thirst, we bought cold soft drinks from a store within the vicinity. Then we sat comfortably on rattan chairs and enjoyed watching the Floating Cottages and the rafts as they were peacefully toured on the surface of the lake.
The stillness charm of Sumlang Lake will surely give you relaxation as you free yourself from the hustle and bustle of city life. This is a must-visit when you go to Albay. Indeed, a perfect destination for a family or group of friends rather than spending time at malls as it offers a quiet time with nature.
As of the moment, camping is currently not allowed. Definitely, we will go back next summertime and we will ride in the Floating Cottage.
