Panagbenga Festival or swimming in a beach resort? “Swimming!” Pao chose the latter eagerly. Our son is not a finicky lad, he doesn’t care if it’s a black or white sand beach as long as we are all together in a family getaway, that would be it. And so for his 14th birthday, we will go back to Villa Sulit in Baryo Hugom in Laiya, San Juan, Batangas. Cheap resort but with clear water and breathtaking view.
Fortunately, I found the contact number of the resort (c/o Sammy) from Virtual Tourist. As per inquiry, the big air-conditioned nipa hut is no longer available. What we had was a small nipa hut with a sink, comfort room, one fan room, and a balcony for P3,500 with the inclusion of an entrance fee. We were so glad because we were on a beachfront.
Seven years back, we were greeted by dirt and dust as we were heading the 4-km road leading to the resort. But now it is convenient for travelers because the road is well-paved. From Pasay City, we reached our destination in less than four hours. Thanks to my hubby for making our time trip a bit shorter than our first time here.
We passed by the new Casa Dolores Hotel as we were approaching the wide and spacious parking lot of Villa Sulit. The old wooden house which we occupied in September 2005 is no longer there. New five nipa huts were erected in the area. Indeed Villa Sulit had improved so much. That’s good!
Sammy assisted us immediately when we reached the resort. We began preparing for our lunch. My hubby grilled hotdogs and pork liempo. Pao, Shen, Gie, Miko, Pol, Rion, and Noel dashed into the water. At lunchtime, delicious meals were served on the table. Can’t resist eating more than a cup of rice, whew!
After an hour, it was too inviting to sleep because of the refreshing wind coming from the sea. And so we doze off, Mama on the lead. Others went back in the water. By afternoon, I was so excited as we headed to the most beautiful spot near La Luz Resort which I call, the Big Rock. This is the first reason why I love to go back here.
As we were walking on the shoreline, I was surprised to see resorts sprouted like mushrooms, lots of boats docked near the shore, and lots of bathers on the water. Gone is the serene atmosphere of Baryo Hugom seven years ago. It was a noisy crowd now. I felt so sad seeing these changes.
But on the other hand, this is good for local tourism. A good sign that Baryo Hugom is now becoming a popular beach destination.
As we stepped atop the big rock, I felt I was on top of the world, venturing God’s wonderful creations. The view was still amazingly perfect, from the clear blue sky, down to the craggy rocks and to the limitless blue water below. I appreciated it more for our second step here. Going down, we discovered that there was another beautiful rock formation at the back of this huge rock. Awesome!
When we went back to Villa Sulit, all of them were immersed in the water while I proceeded to Casa Dolores to see the rooms. The manager allowed me to see the available rooms which were actually nice but the rate is quite above average. Satisfied with my ocular inspection, I went back to our nipa hut to prepare for dinner.
Dinner came. As usual, everyone’s tummy was full. So full that we stayed a while on the balcony and played Pinoy Genyo using my hubby’s galaxy tab. We didn’t swim anymore. After our kulitan, we explored along the long stretch to enjoy the nighttime solitude. There was a fire lantern activity (P300) in one of the resorts and we enjoyed watching those beautiful fire lanterns swaying gently up in the sky.
My hubby slept alone inside the tent. The kids lie down in bed inside the room with my sister and Noel. I joined the teens and momsie sleeping on the balcony, it was so cool here and safe. Time now for bed!
Mornings at Baryo Hugom
I awoke to the sound of my alarm clock at 5:00 am. I got up so excitedly holding my cam to capture my favorite sunrise photo. My hubby was still sleeping so I headed to the shore alone. I was surprised to see lots of people sprawling on the sand, others were busy chatting with each other and others were holding cameras too. Noel was walking on the shore, savoring the moment with nature. I was late.
I felt so nostalgic as I remember my sunrise photo activity here in 2005. I was sitting here, alone in the sand, same place, same time with so much serenity and tranquility. But now, the noise of people talking and laughing engulfed the atmosphere. There’s no serenity anymore.
And there came the sun gracefully rising up to the sky. It was so beautiful as its rays spilled slowly to the calm water. This is where I felt the gentler world of the sea. The sensation was so thrilling and wonderful. The amazing sunrise on the beachfront is the second best thing I love here in Baryo Hugom.
It was so delightful eating together for a breakfast. The balcony was filled with our noise, laughter, conversation, sipping coffees, and planning ahead for the next escapade. As all slices of bread were eaten, off we went to the Big Rock to enjoy watching the breath-taking morning view. And of course, time for photo shooting again. Hahaha!
The next activity is to swim!. The water is still the same, it was crystal clear and safe to swim. We can open our eyes while swimming underwater. I should be thankful because the cleanliness of the water was maintained. Of all the beaches in Batangas that we’ve been to, San Juan had the clearest and cleanest water. And this is the third and last beautiful thing I love here in Baryo Hugom.
We ate our lunch late because of the non-stop swimming activity. We extended our stay until 1:00 pm. Sammy’s mother didn’t charge us any more for our one-hour extension. She thanked us and invited us to come back.
As long as there is the Big Rock, surely, we will go back, albeit the crowd and noise. Pao had enjoyed again his water adventure birthday.
Where would be our next destination Pao?

does the resort has a resto inside? or are there any restos/eatery near or around the resort?
Hi cam,
There’s no resto inside and I’m not sure if there are eateries near the resort. But there are sari sari stores where you could buy breads or other basic goodies. Thanks for visiting.
Hi, meron po ba sila campsite? Pwede din ba magluto dito?
Hi Angeline,
Not exactly campsite, me area lang sila na pwede mag-pitch ng tent. They have grilling equipment but burners are for those staying in nipa hut only. Thanks for visiting.
I have few questions:
1. Are camping tents allowed for an overnight stay in Villa Sulit?
2. How much is the fee for day tour (if there is) and can we pitch a tent?
Thanks in advance!
Hi Ellie,
Yes camping tents are allowed for overnight stay in Villa Sulit. You may text Sammy at 09278768746 for the rate for day tour. Thanks for visiting.
Is this still active? Who do we contact for reservations?
Hi Jennissa Dei,
I’m not sure po kung active pa ang contact numbers nila. Si Kuya Sammy po ang contact person namin. Thanks for visiting my site.
can I get your updated contact numbers.. we would like to inquire for your overnight rates for 8 pax.
Hi Ahnne,
Sorry I have no updated contact number of Kuya Sammy of Villa Sulit. The last time we contacted him is through this number-09278768746. We took the nipa hut in the beachfront for P3,500, it increases to P4,500 on peak season.

Good am mam.. ask ko lang kung 3500 p0 b tlaga ung c0ttage? Kasi po last time nagpunta kmi dun is 2k lang same c0ttage.. balak ko po kasi isama mga kawork q dun.. wala kasi aqng c0ntact dun eh..
Hi arvin,
P3,500 is for the nipa hut with one room, sink, private room and balcony (low season rate). P4,500 on peak season.
Thank you for the nice reviews about villa sulit, that made me interested to go there. ask ko lang po, if I want to pitch in a tent, how much would it cost? and malalim po ba ang waters for swimming?
Hi Wendell,
Thank you for the compliment. Sorry I have no idea how much it cost if you will only pitch a tent for your stay. In our case it was free since we occupied the nipa hut. Okay naman po ang lalim ng water. You may contact Sammy at this number 0927-8768746. Thanks for visiting.
Good morning. From villa sulit, is there a way to go to the “the rock” without having to pass through la luz? I heard la luz security guards will not allow you to pass through their area (just read a blog). Thanks.
Hi Belle,
Sorry I have no idea how to go to the big rock without passing La Luz. Our contact person told us there is no restriction in going to the big rock. In our two visits to Villa Sulit there were no security guards in the vicinity of La Luz so we were able to go to the big rock not only once but twice. Maybe they are prohibiting outsiders if there is an event or special occasion held on the resort especially on the beachfront. Thanks for visiting.
Hello,
I would like to know how much is the nipa hut.. can we cook inside the hut.. what other activities the teenager can enjoy.. where can we buy the food.. can you send me your reply thru my email mentioned. i am so much interested with the place..
thank you.
Hi Edna Serrano,
Nipa Hut on lean season – P3,500, P4,500 on peak season… yes you can cook, gas stove is provided… swimming and strolling around at the big rock are the activities to enjoy at the resort… there are karinderya nearby for your lunch or dinner…

Hi there!
Thanks for sharing your experience. Ask ko lang po kung need po talaga ng reservation bago pumunta ng Villa Sulit? Then kung malaki po ba yun space for tents? And how much po yun entrance fee if overnight or daytime lang po? Balak po kasi namen mag sidetrip after our hike. Thanks po.
Hi Jhelay,
If not naman po peak season and you will only pitch a tent, I think you don’t need to reserve na for the space. P100 po before ang entrance. Try to call na lang po this contact number if it is still active – +63909-9457571. Enjoy your stay. Thank you for visiting my site.
