With my hubby at Applebee’s, BGC

When my hubby’s former office-mates went home from work abroad, he was cordially invited for a dinner at Applebee’s Grill and Bar, or simply Applebee’s at Eastwood, Quezon City. He was fascinated with their best-seller Blackened Ribeye. This is the reason why he sweetly coerced me to go to BGC (Bonifacio Global City) in Taguig for a Friday dinner date for two.

But before we rave for ribs and steaks, we set off for an evening walk coming from Serendra Piazza to Bonifacio High Street Central. With a kilometer stretch of bustling retail outlets, restaurants, stunning buildings, it seemed we were walking to Orchard Road, a famous Asia shopping street in Singapore.

And so we entered the two-story restaurant. The ground floor is a bar area with no usual fancy chandelier on the ceiling but light bulbs that made the area brightly lighted. There were a few guests who were having a good time with beers and happy conversation.

We went upstairs to the main dining area. It was rather spacious, with several interesting artworks on walls and an open kitchen. We chose the table near the glass wall to have a better view of the city. A charming waitress immediately approached us and handed to us the menu.

We were looking over a well-loved American cuisine, with choices of steaks, ribs, burgers, pasta, and desserts. I was reminded of Outback Special, the best-seller I ordered with my office mates a year ago at Outback Steakhouse. But suddenly, I decided against munching steak so this is what I’ve tried:

Fiesta Lime Chicken (P395) – What I love here is the tender-juicy grilled chicken with lime juice topped with tortilla strips and Jack cheddar. The strips were so delightfully crispy that I ate it all together with the freshly-made pico de gallo. The serving was so big that I could not eat all the Mexican rice. There was a portion left.

My hubby’s:

Chicken Tenders (P375) – are breaded chicken, tender, and fried until golden brown. This is served with fries, corn cub, and coleslaw.

To quench my thirst, this was my drink for the day, Fresh Lemonade (P150)! It was just right and refreshingly cool! My hubby here and abroad loves Pineapple Juice (P145).

We were approached by the waitress to try their Butter Pecan Blondie, their famous dessert, and Churros S’mores, Applebee’s customized food for Filipino guests which has churro twists, toasted marshmallows, and chocolate dip. We really want to, but our heavy tummies were saying “retreat!” Hahaha!

Applebee’s, the world’s largest casual dining brand was brought to Manila by Global Restaurant Concepts, Inc, which is also the franchise holder of Dine Equity.

Verdict:

For a budget-conscious, this restaurant may not be of choice. In our case, we paid P1,065. It’s not bad at all since the food was flavorful and served with big portions.

The service was quite good and fast.

The ambiance had a homey American feel. I was imagining ourselves we are eating in the USA with my sister and her family who loves to feast on ribs and steaks in California.

As this artwork says:

Drop by at Applebee’s in time of special occasions like birthday, graduation day, promotion, or even special days like Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, or Father’s Day. For in Applebee’s, there’s always a reason to celebrate!

I sure love to go back with our kids.

  1. I always appreciate when I enter in a beanery that has a bunch of art work on the wall and are being organized and not strange to the eyes. I like how you write about this restaurant, it’s like as if I’m dining with you. The food is a bit expensive for me, but I guess it’s all worth it since it looks tempting and delicious. I would visit this place soon when I get the chance to travel to Manila again.
